Joy Vane Axial Fan failure

What Happened

What Happened

What Happened

There are many customers that have controllable pitch blade fans. Due to the desire of reducing maintenance costs and what is believed to create a much simpler operating system as well as save energy many convert their fans onto a VFD. Often times it is successful but other times not so. These are pictures of fans which failed due to stalling which happens more often when a VFD is installed. Care and protocol must be followed to reduce the chances of this taking place.

  • Ask all the questions about the existing fans operating conditions before making the modification.
  • Only use Factory approved methods of lock down or moving to a fixed adj. rotor
  • Startup testing is paramount to identify any stalling which may occur
  • Always protect motor bearings with Cool Blue inductive cores to prevent bearing failure due to shaft currents
